Local fitness instructor bounces back from collapse of franchise she worked for to carry on the business in Sutton Coldfield

AFTER the national franchise she worked for collapsed a local fitness instructor has bounced back to carry on the business herself.

Claire Smith was one of the 121 franchisees affected when Rosemary Conley Food and Fitness went into administration at the beginning of February after 20 years in the diet and fitness industry.

Now the 47-year-old is running the business in her own right under the name Claire for Fitness.

Claire, from Walmley, said: "Although I have had some fantastic years with the Rosemary Conley brand, I am so excited to be starting this new business independently.

"I am determined to not let it stop me helping local people change their lives for the better. The business has just carried on as it was while I did all the cosmetic changes and rebranding and launched new classes too.

"There is a real buzz and excitement in class. I can now offer so much more value to my members without the constraints of a franchise."

With support from her members, Claire is carrying on her own successful classes in Sutton Coldfield and will now offer the same combination of fun and exercise with optional weight management support all in one class.

She does 14 classes a week in and around Sutton Coldfield with men and women of all different ages and all different levels of fitness.

Claire, whose husband Jason is a personal trainer, has two daughters Brodie, 21, and Olivia, 20.

She added: "My classes are suitable for all ages, sizes and levels of fitness with a friendly and fun atmosphere."

During almost six years as an instructor with the Rosemary Conley company, she helped thousands of local men and women get fitter. In October last year, she won Franchisee of the Year Bronze Award.

Claire added: "There is no better sense of achievement than seeing members completely change their lives through exercise and eating well – achieving a healthy weight and improving your fitness levels is simply life-enhancing.

"Men and women all different ages and all different levels of fitness come to my classes and their support for me to continue has been amazing."
